THE E. VIRGIL AND ELAINE WINGATE CONWAY VISITOR CENTER
The E. Virgil and Elaine Wingate Conway Visitor Center opened to the public in March 2005, featuring a new and larger gift shop, an open-air patio, and a ticket booth. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on June 25, 2005 with remarks from Mr. and Mrs. Conway, Lighthouse Committee Chairman Richard White, Montauk Historical Society President Betsy White, and others.
The rooms formerly used for the gift shop in the Lighthouse Museum were renovated to become “Where Land Meets Sea and Sky: Exploring Montauk History through the Richard T. Gilmartin Galleries.”
